As I write this post, thousands upon thousands of would-be Mansur Gavriel owners are either cheering with glee as they finally obtain that (insert wished-for Mansur Gavriel bag-style here) they have wanted for so long, OR getting really pissed off as they see the dreaded “Sold Out” notice upon check-out of their wished-for bag. Already the MG (short for Mansur Gavriel, obviously) Facebook page is being inundated with both triumphant and bitchy posts about their bags as these items get sold out within the hour.
Brilliant marketing on the brand’s part? or just a case of being the “IT” brand, and being unable to meet demand with supply? Time will tell, I suppose. I will write a separate and extensive post about why I truly love Mansur Gavriel bags, and how they function in real world use. Suffice to say I love their clean minimal lines, hardy leather, and understated elegance.
So how did I do for today’s re-stocking event ? Very very very well indeed. Not only was I able to obtain yet another bag in my collection, but I was able to obtain a second bag for my mother. She had seen a previous post about my small tote, and immediately wanted one for herself.
What? You got TWO bags ??? Why yes I did.
HOW?
Opportunity favors the prepared, as that saying goes. And do I owe my Comic Con experiences a LOT. You see, the fantastic madness that is the 5-day Comic Con experience prepares you to meet other life challenges in that you begin to approach life in the same prepared and calculated way that you would approach 1.) getting a Comic Con badge ; 2.) prepping your Comic Con schedule ; 3.) prepping yourself to stand/wait in long lines ; 4.) going and accepting the flow if it doesn’t go your way.
Notice the word prepping. I made sure my mom selected the tote color and size that she wanted. I also made sure to go on the website beforehand to see which colors of the crossbody bag that I wanted. This morning, I opened up my trusty Chrome browser, went on the MG website, and waited patiently for the clock to hit 8:00 am ( Re-stocking started at 11:00 am EST, which is 8:00 am PST). Exactly at 8:00 am, I hit the refresh button, clicked my way to my first purchase of my mom’s tote, checked out, typed in my payment/shipping information as fast as I could, and clicked on “Finalize Order”.
Not even pausing to gloat, I clicked on the “Return to Store” button, then repeated everything above for my cammello crossbody bag. Et voila!
NOW I could gloat. I was prepared, and that preparation got me my bags! This is the second time I’ve purchased during Mansur Gavriel’s re-stocking event, and this is the second time I have been able to get exactly what I wanted.
Lesson of this post? Be Prepared. (and it doesn’t hurt to have had Comic Con training as well 😉 )
And now, bag pictures: (Disclaimer: these pictures were taken from the Mansur Gavriel website )
My mom’s choice: The small tote in brandy with avion (fancy word for grey blue) interior lining. The tote itself is made with Italian vegetable tanned brandy leather, and comes with a detachable wallet.
My choice (and third Mansur Gavriel bag): The new style of crossbody bag in cammello.
The bag is made of Italian vegetable tanned cammello leather crossbody with beige canvas interior. It supposedly has one interior pocket, and it looks like the strap is made in the same style as the bucket bag strap for adjustability. The clasp is magnetic.
Both, and all Mansur Gavriel bags are made in Italy, in case you were wondering 😉
Whelp, time to get back to work. These bags aren’t going to pay for themselves!
